history

Althaea was one of the first broodmares to come to Soleil after we acquired a Breeding License. She was listed for sale by an internationally renowned KWPN breeding and competition facility in New Zealand, and we couldn't pass up this incredible girl! In her competition days she competed through the Level 6 and Level 7 jumpers, taking home multiple championships. She and her rider competed so successfully that it seemed certain they'd be hitting the Grand Prix in a matter of years, but unfortunately a freak accident left Althaea with a knee injury that put her out of competition. As much as her rider wanted to keep her around, Thea's owners opted to sell her as a broodmare and she was snapped up in private sale by the New Zealand breeders. They planned on keeping Thea indefinitely, but in an effort to reduce their breeding stock they decided to offer her for sale, and I didn't hesitate for a second before putting in my bid. Luckily for me, I got to take her home, and after months of paperwork, travel and quarantine I got to bring Thea back to Soleil Much as she seems to miss the thrill of competition, Thea is thoroughly enjoying life as a broodmare, and is one of the best moms at Soleil. She's a spirited lady, and won't take any guff from her foals or any of the other mares. She has produced some incredible foals already, including our own star Soleil Lucifer, passing on her lovely coloring, beautiful conformation, and talent over fences. Thea is sure to produce many more champions over the years.
